Introduction

WebLAV is an app that lets devices on the same network browse files on this computer from a browser. No login is required to read them.

These are the situations it is meant for.

  • A classroom: play listening material held on the computer from the students' tablets. Put the handouts you used to print on it as PDFs and let people open them on their own devices.
  • A home: look at the photos, videos and documents on the computer from a phone on the house Wi-Fi.

Nothing has to be handed around, and nothing has to be uploaded somewhere else. As long as you are on the same network as the computer acting as the server, opening its address in a browser is enough.

What you can do

There are five kinds of content you can register.

  • Link: a shortcut to an external site. Sites you use often can sit on the same screen as everything else.
  • File: upload a single file and hand it out. Suited to one-off items — one handout, one recording.
  • Folder: let people open a folder on the computer as it is. Swapping its contents needs no re-registering.
  • Archive: index the files under a folder and show them filtered by attributes such as year or session. Suited to large sets of material.
  • Group: a folder that exists only on screen, gathering other content together. Useful for grouping by subject or year.
