Add users

The first administrator is created from the CLI, as described in "Install". Every user after that can be added from the admin screen (/admin/users).

The difference between user and admin

  • admin: can operate every admin screen. That includes adding users, changing their roles and deleting them. An admin can also review and clean up other people's "Private" content from the admin screen.
  • user: can register and edit all five kinds of content, and can change their visibility. A user cannot operate the screens meant for admins.

Here is what a user can do and what only an admin can do.

Operation user admin
Register, edit and delete content (all five kinds) Yes Yes
Change visibility Yes Yes
Register and delete shared folders No Only from the server PC
Rescan an archive Yes Yes
Publish and unpublish archive items Yes Yes
Add and remove axis values, edit their display names Yes Yes
Add and remove axes themselves, change their source No Yes
Change how display titles are assembled No Yes
Add users, change their roles, delete them, reset passwords No Yes

A user cannot see other people's "Private" content. It does not appear in the admin list, and opening it directly comes back as not found.

Adding

Use "Add" on the admin screen and give a username, a password and a role.

Deleting

When a user is deleted, the "Private" content they registered is changed to "Hidden" and kept. Review it on the admin screen and decide whether to clean it up or publish it. Their other content is left as it is.

The last admin cannot be deleted or demoted

While only one admin remains, that person cannot be deleted or demoted to user. This prevents a state where nobody can operate the admin screens.
